Tea Is the Invitation
When I say tea is the invitation, I quite literally mean it.
Tea is the invitation to care for yourself. To have meaningful conversations. To sit in contemplation. To be filled by community and, in return, pour something back into it.
It is an invitation to slow down enough to notice what is happening within you and around you.
Tea is the invitation to remember.
Long before tea became something we grabbed on the way out the door or ordered from a menu, people were gathering plants, steeping leaves, roots, flowers, bark and seeds in water. They were learning from the earth, from one another and from generations of observation about what plants could offer the body, the spirit and the community.
Every time we steep a plant, we participate in something humans have been doing for centuries.
There is wisdom in that.
Tea is the invitation to give gratitude to the earth’s creation.
There is something humbling about remembering that what is in your cup began somewhere else. A seed. Soil. Rain. Sun. Someone tending, harvesting, drying or preparing it before it ever reached your hands.
Even a simple cup gives us an opportunity to acknowledge how much had to happen before we could receive it.
Herbs remind us that care does not always have to be complicated. Sometimes care looks like learning which plants support you. Sometimes it is making something with your own hands. Sometimes it is simply sitting down long enough to drink what you made.
Tea is the invitation to conversation.
Some of the best conversations happen when there is something warm between your hands and nowhere you need to rush off to.
Tea gives us a reason to gather.
Across cultures and generations, it has welcomed people into homes, marked ceremonies, accompanied difficult conversations, celebrated new beginnings and created space for people to simply be together.
That part of tea matters to me just as much as what is inside the cup.
Because wellness was never meant to exist only as an individual pursuit. There is wellness in being known. In laughing around a table. In sharing what you have learned. In someone pouring for you this time because maybe you are tired of always being the one who pours.
Tea is the invitation to be curious.
What happens when we stop thinking of herbs as something unfamiliar or inaccessible and start learning them?
What grows where we live? What did our grandparents use? What plants have traveled across cultures and generations? Why is one herb cooling while another is warming? Why does something bitter make our face twist while also having a long history of use for digestion?
There is an entire world inside the plants we walk past every day.
You do not have to know everything about herbs to begin. Curiosity is enough.
That is really what I hope Planted creates space for.
Not perfection. Not another wellness trend telling you that you need to completely reinvent your life.
An invitation.
To learn a little more about the plants around you. To make something with your hands. To care for yourself with intention. To sit with people you love. To ask better questions. To share what you know and remain curious about what you do not.
To sip the wisdom of centuries past while creating new rituals of our own.
Tea is the invitation.
The only question is what you allow it to invite you into.
